Torque and drag analysis in a directional well is one of the most useful tools available to monitor hole condition and predict problems due to pipe buckling. The greatest barrier to the proper use of this analysis has been the
difficulty in using the available software. The Wellsite Directional Controller torque and drag feature has been designed with ease of use as the principal requirement. In the vast majority of cases any assembly can be reduced to a very simple level and still be adequate for effective calculations to be made. The required information can be input in a very short time and, because the entire program is integrated, all the survey, projection and planning data will constantly be available to allow the analysis to be completed with one mouse click. Drillstring tension or compression, generated torque and buckling forces are calculated. The results are available in table and graphic form both on screen and printed to enable ready interpretation and implementation of the data. Graphic output of side forces can be produced and this will show where potential problems can arise such as open hole key seating and casing wear. This side force display will also show the effect of any excessive doglegs in a well. Trend analysis can be performed which will allow quick comparison of theoretical and actual hookloads and help to identify any deteriorating hole condition. Once again this information is given in table and graphic form which can be printed. |
